Lipomics Technologies Hires Chief Medical Officer

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 6, 2006 – Lipomics Technologies, Inc., a company
specializing in the comprehensive and quantitative profiling of lipid metabolites,
announced today that Dr. Meeta Patnaik, MD has joined the company in the newly
created position of Chief Medical Officer.  
 
Dr. Patnaik comes to Lipomics with twenty years of experience in medicine,
immunology, virology, molecular biology and has developed and marketed over 200
clinical assays, including the first commercially available test for Hanta virus. Dr. Patnaik
will be responsible for developing Lipomics’ rich pipeline of diagnostic products
leveraging their proprietary database of lipid metabolites to identify disease states.  
 
Previously, Dr. Patnaik was senior VP and chief science and technology officer at
Pathway Diagnostics. There she was responsible for all aspects of the scientific and
commercialization of new diagnostic assays and was part of the licensing and IP team.
She also enabled several key alliances with major diagnostic and drug development
partners.

specific lipid-based diagnostic assays helping to grow our clinical diagnostics program,”

Dr. Patnaik received her MD in 1987 and was a research fellow in immunology at the
National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi, India. She has also held long-term
academic positions at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, California State
University, Dominguez Hills and the Department of Biotechnology, Microbiology and
Immunology, University of California, Los Angeles. Patnaik is also the author of over 69
published scientific papers and journal articles and has presented papers at a number of
professional and academic institutes worldwide.
