Homeostatic regulation of epithelia influences disease acquisition and aging.

Results:
Prosecretory mitogen lacritin stimulates FOXO3-ATG101 and FOXO1-ATG7 autophagic coupling and restores metabolichomeostasis.

Conclusion:
Lacritin is a homeostatic regulator.

Significance:
Exogenous lacritin restores prohomeostatic activity to tears from dry eye individuals.
